Description

Zeeland Bridge – Diving in the Eastern Scheldt
The Zeeland Bridge is one of the Netherlands’ most distinctive dive sites and lies in the heart of the Eastern Scheldt. It is known for its massive bridge piers, strong tides and exceptionally abundant marine life. The dynamic water conditions and wealth of life make this a site that particularly appeals to experienced divers.

Zeeland Bridge

Access & Parking
The dive site is easily accessible, with parking spaces directly beside the entry. As the Zeeland Bridge is extremely popular, it can be busy, particularly at weekends and during cuttlefish season. Arrive well in advance if possible and be considerate of other divers and recreational users.

Tides & Diving Conditions
Diving at the Zeeland Bridge requires careful planning around the tides. Safe diving is only possible around slack water unless you deliberately plan a drift dive. At other times, currents can be extremely powerful. Because of shipping and fishing traffic, the use of a DSMB is strongly recommended.

Underwater Environment
The bridge piers form impressive vertical structures completely covered in seaweeds, anemones and sponges. An enormous variety of life shelters among the rocks and growth. There is already plenty to see at the first pier; the second lies farther away and requires more experience because of the distance and often stronger current.

Marine Life
Biodiversity at the Zeeland Bridge is extensive and seasonal. Common sightings include:

  • cuttlefish and squid (spring)
  • lobsters and crabs among the rocks
  • European sea bass and mullet
  • gobies, nudibranchs and other macro species
  • occasional seahorses

Facilities
The Zeeland Bridge has excellent facilities for divers. Toilets, changing rooms and rinsing facilities are available. There is also a filling point for compressed air up to 300 bar, and nitrox can be purchased with tokens, making the site suitable for several dives in one day.

Zeeland Bridge depth map
The depths on the map are measured relative to NAP (Amsterdam Ordnance Datum). Tides may cause the water level to rise or fall, so the actual depth can differ.

Suitability
This site is mainly suitable for experienced divers with knowledge of tides and current diving. Divers who plan carefully and remain within their personal limits are rewarded with one of the liveliest and most impressive dives in the Netherlands.

Why choose the Zeeland Bridge?
The combination of strong tides, monumental bridge piers and exceptional biodiversity makes the Zeeland Bridge a true classic. For many divers, this is the definitive location for experiencing Eastern Scheldt diving at its best.
